We all do it. It’s a part of life that can’t be avoided and no matter how perfect you think you are, you too have successfully shit the bed at one point or another. Similar to shitting, mistakes happen to everyone; sometimes they take a while to clean up and the aftermath almost always…stinks.
But making mistakes doesn’t mean you suck at life. On the contrary it means you have learned something that life could only teach you by showing you. It teaches you resilience by proving how far you can truly bend and it provides you with a lesson that you will keep close to your heart as you grow older. Mistakes make us wise and without them, we could never truly be human. Without mistakes, we would never know failure and thus we would never understand success.
Some of us make more mistakes than others but what means more than the mistake itself is how you bounce back from it. You may live with regret for a while, you may feel like you’re the dumbest person on earth too but knowing that you can’t go back in time and change it is the first thing you need to know when moving forward. Once you come to grips with the the lack of time travel offered to you, you can start fixing what you broke and eventually begin living again.
Maybe you screwed up at work or maybe you really messed up one of your relationships? Perhaps you did something when you were younger that still haunts you to this day? Everyone can think of at least a handful of times in their life when they really fucked up but bashing your head against a brick wall won’t fix it… it might leave you with a massive headache and a nice bump, though. Knowing that you can become a better person because of it is a much better outcome.
If you find yourself always making the same mistakes and falling into the same negative holes, it’s time to figure out WHY? Why aren’t you allowing yourself to learn from your past? How bad do you have to get hurt before you start making a change? If it’s something bigger than you, then ask for a shoulder to lean on. If you think you can manage on your own, then get your shit together and realize your worth. You are an amazing person with so much to offer and there is no reason to miss another second of your wonderful life because of the regrets and mistakes that decorate your past.
So, welcome mistakes and take them in stride. You are human and you are growing every day. Remember the wisdom you have taken away from past mistakes and see how you apply it to your life now. Don’t let your past define your future and never call yourself stupid because of mistakes you made in your past. If anything, you are SMARTER because of it and it’s time you start realizing it.
